Home runs?

Question from my friend Dice:

I'm trying to find out what % of all major league baseball players who ever played the game have hit at least one home run.  This would include, of course, pitchers and players who played just one game, or even had just one at bat (say he was called up from AAA just for the day and sucked and went back).

Someone quoted 28%, but, had no evidence to back it
up.

So, does anybody know where to get this info?

Went to the source
I asked David Vincent, who is known inside SABR and amongst many media types as "the Sultan of Swat". David's response:
Through 2004, there have been 16,212 players and only 6,616 have hit at least one home run. That is 41%. This is one of the stats that was used in the Parade magazine story that ran yesterday on page 4.

I'm looking for a link to the Parade story.
