Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Brewers at Marlins (7/6)

TIME: 7:05 @ JRS

                             vs.
         BREWERS                                    MARLINS
Tomo Ohka (5-4, 3.71)                 A.J. Burnett (5-5, 3.18)

I'm back in town, but not making it to the ballpark tonight. Hopefully, pending some automotive festivities, I'll be able to listen to the game on the radio.

Tomo Ohka starts against the Fish tonight - does he ever pitch against anyone else? I feel like the Fish have seen him twelve times this year. A.J. Burnett takes the hill for possibly the last time in teal.

I'll take LoDuca in ichthyomancy and a crowd of 22,222.

Other Picks:
Double B - Burnett

No
I know nothing (ask anyone I met/hung out with this weekend - they'll tell you it's true). Just speculation on my part. The trade deadline is one day closer today than it was yesterday.

I see
the speculation makes sense, I was just wondering I missed an actual report or announcement.

Saturday
Are you going to the game on Saturday? We're tailgating and you're welcome to join us (as is anyone else). If you come out, remind me to tell you the A.J. story from Saturday night. It's not suitable for the site.

Probably Friday not Saturday
I have some party I'm supposed to go to Sat, but we'll see.  Thanks for the invite, hopefully I'll be able to swing by.

I'm Trying To Go...
... on Saturday, if I can get mom home from work early enough (which reminds me, mom won BIG at the casino tonight :-D). I want the mini-billboard. I went for the first mini-billboard night, when I sat in Power Alley and damn near caught Mench's salami off Lois. That game was probably my favorite of the year b/c everybody expected the Fish to pack it in and go home mentally after they were down 5-0, yet they won. :-D The billboards are neat, but not very functional. LOL

picks
Castillo, again. Attendance at 21,345. Cabrera will hit a 3-run home run.

Picks
Castillo and since I was going to choose an attendance number very close to fishfan24 I will go with his, 19,350.

by craig on Jul 6, 2005 5:48 PM EDT reply actions

Picks
Cabrera
17,650
The Marlins will have 5 stolen bases

by jsprt05 and a 1/2 on Jul 6, 2005 6:49 PM EDT reply actions

Picks
Cabrera.

15,401.

The Marlins' 7-8-9 hitters will have as many base hits as 1-2-3.

Random
I just got home and I'd like to point out that the Fish are 4-0 when I'm in attendance this year on the road. Maybe they should hire me to travel with the team.

K-zone
AJ struck out 14 in six innings (so much for pitching to early contact). Mota followed that up with 4 more (in just two innings). 18 Ks in 9 innings is a Marlins record.

Jones added one more in the 10th to extend the club's single game record.

Correction
Sorry - I misunderstood. The franchise record was 20. It is now 21 as Jones struck out two more in the 11th.

The Marlins also established the 9-inning record tonight.

Totals
The Fish finish with 22 strikeouts and threw 202 pitches. More importantly, they managed the win tonight, but you should win when you sit the last 30 opponents in row down.

Marlins win
All hail the Rally Marlin. The Marlins win in 12.

Attendance was 17,079, so the attendance point goes to Jsprt05.

Points tonight for Burnett (Double B), Pierre (Rferry), and Encarnacion (no one had the man with the game winner). I'm torn about Cabrera - and I don't feel like replacing Encarnacion with Cabrera, so no points for those who had Miguel tonight.

That's A Boring Pick
:-P At least when I'm gone, I make different picks each game. :-P ;-)

Speaking of coal
Where did yours go?  I'm not saying you really deserve one, but I thought I remembered one being there.

No - I've always had zero.
I'm a good boy. And I control the table.

Sheesh...
Double-standard much? LOL :-P Oh well, it's not like the SdC's count against the ichthyomancy points. :-D

And another
Maybe we'll start deducting an ichthyomancy point for every ten lumps of coal.

by mike42 on Jul 7, 2005 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Well...
Guess everything I do gets me a SdC anymore, even when pointing out the obvious. Oh well, at least I have 6 (well, probably 5 now) more chances to not do anything wrong. :-D And if you're going to let something you admitted to be completely subjective affect ichthyomancy, that totally kills its objectivity, which is what you strived for when you created it. :-P

Have fun in Chicago
Make sure you cheer for the White Sox while you're there.

I'll just have to remember to mark you down for Cabrera while you're gone. Remind me when you get back if I forget to.

Tomorrow
My picks (since I most likely won't even be awake before the game begins... hell, I've pre-printed my scorecards for tomorrow and filled out as much as possible):

Big Moe.

15,400.

The D-Train gets a pinch hit.

BTW, I think Big Moe can REALLY commiserate with the Brewers' pitcher tomorrow, as he's 2-8 with a 3.24 ERA. Let's hope Big Moe has another outing like last time, where he gets plenty of runs.
