Someone over at the USA Today listened to enough XM Radio to put together a comprehensive ranking of MLB radio announcers.
The Marlins Dave Van Horne and Roxy Bernstein came in 12th in the National League (and their score would have put them ahead of Tampa's team in the AL. That ranking, although low, seems about fair to me.
The Dodgers team -- mainly consisting of Vin Scully, but Charley Steiner and Rick Monday as well -- came in first in the National League; there's no surprise there. In the American League, I was surprised to see find the White Sox team (John Rooney and Ed Farmer) ranked first. Now, don't get me wrong - I really enjoy their broadcasts. What surprised me is that the White Sox radio team would receive such respect.
The USA Today's piece is really interesting. This is pretty much what I was thinking about doing earlier in the year. I haven't combed through it too deeply, but I think I generally agree with their order.
