We need a book forum

I just finished "Eight Men Out" last night - I know... I should have read it a while ago.  Whatcha gonna do?

Anyway - it was really a great book (even though I couldn't help think of the movie the whole time).  It was absolutley riveting for a history book (which I have to admit, I have a weakness for, anyway - especially baseball ones) that you know the ending of.  The writer (Asinov) did an amazing job both of research and presentation.

Anyone have any other recommendations of good baseball books?  I've read plenty, but I am always looking for more.  My favorite one recently was "The Pitch that Killed."  I always thought the story of Ray Chapman was very interesting and when the author puts it in the perspective of what may have been the best season in baseball history and does it very well - it makes for a great book.

On a related note - I also got to Nick Hornby's "Fever Pitch" last week.  I did not see the movie that they made recently (and I won't - for many reasons - but the older british one is now on the way from netflix!).  If anyone here hasn't read that - you really should check it out.  It is harder for most of us Americans to relate to all the British footbal stuff, but the writing is excellent and it is easy to relate (at least somewhat) to his obsession with Arsenal, and what it means to his life.  He does a wonderful job of frankly discussing his love of the game and the team and how it has affected him and all of his relationships since child-hood.  It is hilarious at times and very moving at others.  I found myself nodding my head in agreement more times than I was really comfortable with...

Anyway - check it out, if you haven't.
