Peter Gammons and ESPN are reporting that the Florida Marlins and Boston Red Sox have finished off a trade that would send former World Series MVP Josh Beckett and veteran Mike Lowell to Fenway in return of arguably the Sox's top prospects Hanley Ramirez and Anibel Sanchez.

Ramirez is expected to step right into the everyday SS role vacated by free agent Alex Gonzalez while Sanchez is believed to be a couple years away from the bigs....

We have been throwing around these rumors for a couple of days now, but for Josh and Mikey to actually be gone is really heartbreaking. Rebuilding must be done, but to lose a couple of guys who meant so much to this organization seems to leave a lasting down note for Fish fans.

To Beckett, we did not trade you because of your doings, but because of your talent. October 25th, 2003 will be always be etched into our baseball hearts and we will never forget what you meant to us during that magical post-season.

To Mikey, you held the team together in your early years as a Marlin, and stepped into the slugger role during the World Series year. You always played a significant role on and off the field including your work in the community.
